ABOUT.

Randy Novak has spent his life serving the community he calls home.

A lifelong LaPorte County resident and graduate of Rogers High School, Randy didn’t set out to be a politician, he set out to be useful. That instinct led him to a 34-year career in public safety with the Michigan City Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief. It was demanding work that required calm under pressure, teamwork, and accountability. Values that still guide his leadership today.

Public service didn’t stop at the firehouse. Randy went on to serve as President of the LaPorte County Council, where he helped oversee multimillion-dollar budgets, worked with department heads on long-term planning, and focused on responsible spending that delivered real results for taxpayers.

Whether it was public safety funding, infrastructure, or economic development, Randy approached every decision with a simple question: Does this make life better for the people who live here?

Alongside his public service, Randy has worked for more than 25 years as a licensed real estate broker in Indiana and Michigan. That experience gave him a firsthand understanding of housing, local economies, and the challenges working families face when costs rise faster than paychecks. He knows what it’s like to juggle responsibilities, stretch a dollar, and make long-term decisions with real consequences.

Randy has also remained deeply involved in the community beyond elected office. Over the years, he has served as Chairman of the LaPorte County Fire Chiefs Association, President of the LaPorte County Redevelopment Commission, Vice President of the LaPorte County 911 Advisory Board, and on numerous boards focused on public safety, economic development, and community support. He has long been an advocate for mental health and addiction recovery services, and he makes it a point to attend Problem-Solving Court and Veterans Court graduations because he believes second chances matter.

Family is at the center of Randy’s life. He has been married to his wife, Debbie, for 46 years. Together, they raised two sons in LaPorte County and now enjoy watching their four grandchildren grow up here.

Randy is proud to say he’s missed only one County Council meeting in eight year, to be there for the birth of his grandson.

In October 2025, Randy was sworn in as State Representative for Indiana House District 9, representing Michigan City, northern LaPorte County, and parts of eastern Porter County. He brings to the Statehouse the same approach he’s carried throughout his life: show up, listen, work hard, and treat people with respect.

Randy believes government works best when it is practical, transparent, and focused on improving quality of life. He’s known for working across party lines, staying accessible to constituents, and keeping his word. At a time when politics often feels disconnected from everyday life, Randy remains rooted in the community he’s always served and committed to making sure Indiana works for the people who live here.
